i think i can thank (and blame) ‘big blue marble’ for several things in my life. big blue marble was a kids tv show from the ’70s which showed kids doing what they do in countries around the world. it also organised pen-pals (and had a cool theme song).

i had several pen-pals which introduced me to the idea of getting to know someone i might never meet (though i did end up staying in touch with one and we met years later) who lived in different parts of the world. it is probably partially responsible for my love of travel (so i blame my travel bills on the show) and desire to meet new & different people.

it wasn’t until the early to mid 1990s when i was enrolled in a masters program that i became involved in the online world and fascinated by its ability to connect to others. as part of my course i took an online class (via bbs) which connected me with folks in other countries. bbs rocked! shortly after i found out about the internet, ftp, usenet, gopher, and then mosiac and the rest is history.

one of my early introductions to the world of online communities was alt.fan.jen-coolest. if you’re american, you know how popular the name jennifer was in the 70′s and 80′s, so of course there had to be a usenet group for us. you can get the scoop on jens and jen fans on David G’s page.

most memorable was the first annual mardi jen fest held in new orleans in march 1995. about 8 of us who had never met in person decided to go to new orleans for mardi gras. and yes, there’s photographic evidence. somehow it seems i stayed out of the pix. :)

when i moved out of the music industry & into the internet industry, i worked in the areas of product development/management, production and project management. i’ve worked for several heavy content and community sites including beliefnet, flutter, wsj.com and barrons.com.

in late 2005, i completed a mba along with my thesis concerning virtual teams. i am interested in hearing about opportunities. i am looking for contract and full-time roles in the areas of product/project/strategy with software and online firms – especially with social networking and virtual teams.

i live in melbourne australia but my heart is in nyc and my beer tastes lie in warm english (wandsworth to be exact) bitter. i can be reached by leaving a comment on the site.
