wacky web stats

463 has done some research on internet attitudes. summaries here and at readwriteweb.

an interesting number is more than 1 in 4 had a profile on a social networking site.

but under the wacky category ..

24% said the net could serve as a replacement for a significant other.
11% said they were very or somewhat likely to implant a device in their brain which would allow them to access the net (if it was safe).
18% said they would feel better if they could track their kid via an implant

oh my.

how cool is this?

i’m not sure if this really exists or just the idea of a designer who wants it to exist but how cool!!!

heat sensitive wallpaper. yep. up against the radiator the flowers bloom & become a lovely shade of pink as the radiator gets warm. would be very cool if it was fairly plain wall paper & then bright red flames appeared as it got warmer!

a jb hi- fi customer warning

this one is for any australians who stumble upon this post. if you ever buy anything electronic @ jb hifi, watch out for this ‘warranty is included’ scam. fyi, this occured at the elizabeth street shop in melbourne.

the other week i bought a pair of noise canceling headphones at jb hifi for an upcoming trip. the price on the package was $199.

the sales person assisting me wrote out the order for me to take to the counter & pay. as he was writing it, i noticed he put a $37 warranty on the paper. um, i don’t want an extra warranty. he informed me that the warranty was included in the price of the headphones.

‘see the total owed is$199. just like it sez on the package’

(but yet the headphones were listed on his form as $162 and the warranty was $37)

yes but i don’t want a warranty. he went on about how GREAT the warranty was & obviously as they are such an expensive pair of headphones, i’d want it. besides it was included in the price. i had to have it.

afterwards i looked at the receipt and sure enough there were 2 items listed – $37 for the warranty & the $162 headphones. that annoyed me. i read the documentation to find out i had 15 days to say i didn’t want the warranty. so i called the warranty # & found out i had to call the shop.

when i did, they said i couldn’t get a refund. i asked to speak to the manager. they put me on the phone w the same sales person who argued how he could take away the warranty if i didn’t want that but the $37 was part of the price of the headphones so i wasn’t getting that back. after several minutes of back & forth, he finally said ‘you can have a refund’.

tonite when i went into the shop, not a word was said. the person behind the counter did disappear to ‘find something out’ but didn’t balk at refunding at all (and my refund slip sez ‘customer changed mind’). i walked out in less than 3 minutes with my $37.

so anyone purchasing from them – watch out for the scam. i won’t be hurrying back.

not silly, stupid plus phones, the trip and whatever else

the aforementioned APEC conference is starting this week.

last nite while i was wordpressing away with the tv on in the background, i noticed the tv channel went to a live b’cast of bush getting off airforce 1 at sydney airport. yes. we’ll delay the existing program so we can show george walk off the plane, shake a few hands & get into his car. i did learn some interesting facts. did you know george brings about 600 people along? including his chef? and there’s an ambulance that goes with him everywhere? and that w/in the ambulances they have x amount of george’s type of blood just in case? did you know before he arrives they fly his own cars over (18 of them)? (numbers )

best is how even though this was about 11pm, they said all the roads to & around the airport had been closed since around 5pm. well that would be great for commuting or needing to fly.

anyone have any recommendations for me on a pda/phone combo? am looking at the moto qh, blackjack, blackberry pearl and maybe treo.

only 10 days til we leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woooooo hoooo!!!!!

does anyone want me to bring anything over from au?

sydney is just silly

next week, sydney is shutting down. yes, in another example of govt not knowing how to deal with certain situations, they enact marital law.

towards the end of next week, many companies in sydney are closing. roads are being closed. people are being told to stay away from the city. they’ve even set up a public holiday on friday. why? because sydney is hosting apec – the asia pacific economic cooperation. apec consists of 21 ‘member economies’ (see below for list). this is the conference where u always see pix of politicians in the ‘traditional dress’ of the hosting country.

on the special apec sydney website, you can find out about the havoc this will cause. my fav is why they’re closing schools & areas:

The Australian Government is responsible for the security of visiting foreign dignitaries and the NSW Police Force is primarily responsible for protecting them. Careful planning is necessary to ensure safe and secure APEC meetings for everyone and importantly the general public. As well, Australia is obliged to extend to dignitaries a similar level of diplomatic courtesy that is extended to Australian Government Ministers and officials when they represent Australia overseas.

yes, b/c every other city shuts down to extend diplomatic courtesy. could u imagine if nyc shut down every time something was at the UN?

here’s the best though – dress up george in a range of scary aussie clothes

participating countries
Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; The Republic of the Philippines; The Russian Federation; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States of America; Viet Nam.

my wife is a gangster

i saw this movie on tv a few months back & thought it was fantastic. happens they were rerunning it last nite on tv which prompted me to look it up.

my wife is a gangster is the sweet tale of a girl who has achieved the #2 status of ‘big brother’ in her gang’s hierarchy. no one seems to notice or care that she’s female – esp as she kicks some major ass when fighting. but when she finds her long lost sister, who’s dying of cancer, things change. her sister’s last wish is for a traditional marriage & children for our hard fighting heroine. that’s where it gets funny.

here’s a trailer:

or watch this one! it has american movie voiceovers. too funny. ‘this summer…. ‘.

you can also watch an 8min clip of the movie. this is the scene when her hubby finds out she’s a gangster.

turns out there’s a sequel!!! my wife is a gangster 2.

if u get the chance to see this – def do.

update: there’s #3 also – check out the clip on youtube although it seems to not be the same girl & the comments said it sucked compared to the others
