wilfred the dog

March 27, 2007 on 12:40 am | In melbourne | No Comments

the past couple weeks, one of the tv channels here has been promoting a new show called ‘wilfred’. it’s about a girl who has a dog and a new boyfriend. the dog isn’t very thrilled about not being #1 in his lady’s life anymore.

this sounds pretty sappy. except wilfred is a guy dressed up in a dog suit who smokes & swears & makes the new boyfriend’s life miserable. it’s pretty damned funny. i’ve just tried to explain in 3 diff ways how funny a scene was in tonite’s episode (where wilfred lies on the floor, talks about last nite’s pizza not agreeing with him and smokes) and i can’t do it justice.

you can download here at the telstra site ($3 au but it seems they encode so u are actually ‘renting’ it for 48 hrs. what bullshit). or check out myspace or small clips on youtube. there’s a 6 min clip (all from the first episode i think) at atomfilms.

that after visiting 2 more places with photo machines (one electronics, one big discounter) but several days wait to get them printed – i found a machine at a pharmacy which printed instantly. which means i had to visit a total of 6 places til i found one.

tonite i found this post about why au is a vast web2.0 wasteland. last week i tried to find a place with wifi so a couple of us at work could meet out of the office & do some planning. there were a couple hotel lobbies we could have hung out in & paid about $70 for a day pass. the libraries nearby had meeting rooms, one even offers wifi but of course the meeting room is outside of the wifi zone. sigh.

holy crap, john edwards is using twitter!?!?!?! speaking of twitter, last week i was too enthused with sxsw twittering and this week it’s all about the geo. twitter map and geotwitter.

the news in au

i’m not kidding – this is a real story from a few days ago. here’s the link in the age. the headline is: Aussie mozzies cause cockpit chaos on NZ flight

yes. u heard that. not kidding this is straight from the article:

Six potentially disease-carrying mosquitoes swarmed through the cockpit of a Christchurch-bound plane on Sunday, biting an Australian pilot before being destroyed.

Three mosquitoes were squashed before the flight from Brisbane landed at Christchurch International Airport and another three were destroyed after arrival in the hangar.

Authorities say the invading insects were intercepted so posed no risk to the public.

chaos in the cockpit! oh my GOD! MOSQUITOS! biting a pilot! i’m surprised they didn’t turn the plane around & land asap. the use of the word squashed also puts me into fits of laughter. what else are they going to do???? shoot them? taser them? put them in handcuffs?

oh yesss… the fun u can have…

strangely fascinated

as i’ve noted in my twitter comment (if you’re rss’ing, look at the blog. if you’re at the blog shift your eyes over to the right a bit), i am oddly fascinated by sxsw’s twitter feed. it’s a cute graphical representation. almost like overhearing conversations at the conference. so i’m in melbourne but yet i know it’s pouring rain at this moment in austin & there’s lots of conference folk getting soaked or sitting in bars waiting for the rain to stop. and someone just said richard jeni has been found dead of a self inflicted gun shot wound. geez, twitter is so helpful. ;)

there’s been some decent blog posts re what’s going on over there but not a lot of meat. i so feel like i’m missing out.

i went to see yo la tengo this evening. they were SOOOO GOOD. i’m so glad i went. i danced, i sweated, i had a very large vodka, i was on the edge of the mosh pit (my shoewear prevented me from joining in) & i totally adored it. it made me realise i need more guitars in my life.

good thing wilco is playing next month. who wants to go with me?????

this past week i was listening to a usability podcast about voice systems & they referenced get human which points out how to get past those bad phone systems. it is usa centric but a great idea.

fantastic web2.0 time waster – how much could ur company be worth?

and speaking of companies – i’m in a bit of denial so i haven’t investigated the site but it would seem (from the pr i’ve seen) that one of the web2.0 darlings recently released a product that i’ve been thinking about for about a year now. i have only myself to kick in the ass.

when we were in nz a couple months ago, we could have gone to see these guys, wellington ukulele orchestra but instead went out drinking with a friend of mine. seems u can’t download them but there are a few videos of them doing hey ya, ziggy stardust (this one is filmed at the gig we blew off). seems like it would have been pretty fun.
