and as of 2 days ago, dean was already #10 in google search for ‘dean’.

musically – i must be stuck

i know some of you reading this will be shocked & dismayed but music has not really been part of my life for the last several years.

it’s too expensive to buy cds here (i think i’ve bought maybe 3-4 in 3 years while i used to buy 3-5 a week at j&r…) and the mba sucked away time to listen or go out. in fact the mba sucked up a lot of my life and things i enjoy (nah, not bitter…) and i’ve been rectifying that over the last several months.

so how freaking happy was i that soul asylum, golden smog & sonic youth came out with new music lately!?! i just finished listening to soul asylum’s ‘the silver lining’ and i’m sad. dave, dave, dave, what happened? you were so sexy, so hot with such fun songs. this album made me think you’ve been sitting in a dark room by yourself for years & watching too much news and late night religion tv (jesus? fearless leader? soldier references?)

and worse… predictable or lame lyrics…

on the other hand, sonic youth ‘rather ripped’ is fantastic. they were here on monday & i’m so pissed i didn’t get tix earlier b/c when i went for them it was sold out. so annoyed. watched them on a chat show last nite & yes, i fucked up big time. must have been a great show (and what? the last time they’re touring australia?!). i’ve had a few v quick listens to some golden smog stuff but not enough to comment.

geez… seems like i’m stuck (decade wise) with these mentions. maybe i really should go see sebastian bach when he’s here in september (hey KIM!!!!!).

this article isn’t really about the cute laptop in the pix (not directly) but I WANT THAT LAPTOP!!! or rather i want my laptop to look like that b/c in reality the laptop is a $100 low wattage, net ready computer that MIT medialab/wired/nicholas negroponte wants to give to poor kids around the world.

oops… it seems disney isn’t cool with putting winnie the pooh on a chid’s tombstone. the parents sought permission, were told no and now disney has relented. wonder how they feel about tattoos?

when kim & i went to big day out a few months ago, we noticed something slightly weird about some of the bands. they had a very sesame street, let’s all hold hands & sing along and it will all be fine feel. the magic numbers could have had cookie monster up there for all i know. and go team was right out of ‘we’re 15 and want to be cheerleaders!’ i made a smart ass remark about how maybe all americans (and brits as i think magic numbers is based there) have reverted to being 5 b/c it lets them feel like the world will be ok even though the world is full of shit like global warming & george & the war & bad job situations and terrorism and ……

seems maybe i’m right. salon has this article up (which i havent read beyond the blurb):
