now.. why can’t this be dunkin donuts??? or even better maple donuts from PA?
it seems krisy kreme is opening its first shop in melbourne (they have several in sydney) this thursday (at QV for u locals reading this). big freaking deal. i have never thought their donuts were anything exciting. when we were in sydney months ago we had one and they still do nothing for me. of course it did seem like half the people on the plane had a box of donuts in their overhead compartment.
thursday morning i’m having coffee with one of the guys i went to uni with so ill try to remember to stroll past. it seems they’re going to give away 10k donuts starting at 1030a. again.. no where near as cool as ben&jerry’s free cone day.
just a little follow up here. like i said, i was having coffee with a former classmate so the tram went up swanston st right past QV on thursday morning. at 1020a there was a massive line coming out from a laneway and stretching down swanston. after coffee and some reading at the library, i walked past again at almost noon. turns out they were still giving away donuts, the line just wasn’t as bad (although still decently long). from what i could tell they were giving away a box of donuts to everyone – not singles. so there were all these people walking around with at least one box and often several. great marketing for anyone who happened to be in the area (although the giveaway happened in the middle of QV which means u couldn’t see or hear it from the street so they lost a lot of foot traffic).
also, the weird thing… i dont think they opened a shop at QV. i think the shop is in the burbs. okaaaay.
