krispy kreme

February 28, 2006 on 9:37 pm | In melbourne | 1 Comment

now.. why can’t this be dunkin donuts??? or even better maple donuts from PA?

it seems krisy kreme is opening its first shop in melbourne (they have several in sydney) this thursday (at QV for u locals reading this). big freaking deal. i have never thought their donuts were anything exciting. when we were in sydney months ago we had one and they still do nothing for me. of course it did seem like half the people on the plane had a box of donuts in their overhead compartment.

thursday morning i’m having coffee with one of the guys i went to uni with so ill try to remember to stroll past. it seems they’re going to give away 10k donuts starting at 1030a. again.. no where near as cool as ben&jerry’s free cone day.

the mp3 player

February 24, 2006 on 10:55 pm | In tech | No Comments

ok, i’m an asshole. this morning i called tech support & said i couldn’t get the mp3 player to connect. they suggested i update the drivers, then see if i could update the firmware & if those didnt work, they suggested i take it back to where i bought it. well of course those didn’t work so i had been planning on a return tomorrow. tonite the boy tries it & it runs fine. FINE. not a single problem. huh? it’s killing me why it’s suddenly working fine. and then i finally realise i hadn’t pushed the cord deep enough into the mp3 player. ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH.

interesting work atmospheres

research has now shown that boring cubicle farms can cause your brain to structually change (and not for the good)

mp3s & tired

February 23, 2006 on 11:39 pm | In tech | No Comments

yesterday i bought a creative zen micro mp3 player. while i’d like nothing more than a 60gig video ipod, i can’t afford it. i’ve been using my existing mp3 player (remember handspring & their models with modules? i have a mp3 module from 2000 that has an hours worth of music) for years & am really tired of updating the music every day (b/c there’s only an hours worth).

so i decided to go for a much smaller HD & a non ipod since it would be cheaper. the micro is cute & small & 5 gig. BUT IT DOESNT WORK.

yes… my computer isn’t recognising it so i can’t put any music on it. after spending a couple hours wanting to toss it across the room (it’s also freezing up), i’m going to call customer support in the morning. keep ur fingers crossed it’s something silly i’ve done.

feeling v tired right now though not sleepy. just not really able to think well. maybe i should go read. am fighting off a little bit of a cold.

nz & au for U$798

February 22, 2006 on 8:59 am | In visit me | No Comments

i’m not kidding with that price. air nz is offering a promotion (book before march 12th) where u book a flight to nz and they throw in a free flight btwn nz & au. u can fly from lax or sfo into nz and then go to syd or melb (or others) for U$798 (not including tax). that’s very very good.

u have to fly btwn april 1st – july 1st or aug 7- sept 30. those are, of course, our winter but remember it doesn’t get THAT cold here.

come on slackers. book now.

too bad that americans are dumb site is gone

February 13, 2006 on 6:18 pm | In nyc | No Comments

previously i linked to americans are dumb, a blog which highlighted the insanity of the states.

last year the site owner decided to stop the blog because it was just getting too easy. quote:

It became at once too easy and too difficult: too easy to find examples of a country going off the rails; too difficult to find examples that were any different than last week or last month. At some point it becomes boring to point out that the administration lies to the public, or that the media fails to call them on it, or that the public fails to pick up on it.

here’s a perfect story for that site:

Arrested for asking for quiet in cinema: An Australian tourist has been charged with assault after telling a Texas woman to stop talking on her mobile phone at the movies

yes… an aussie tourist had the balls to tell a texan to stop talking on her phone during a movie. the australian even TOUCHED the woman on her arm to try to get her attention after ’shhhh’ noises were ignored. the australian has now been charged with ‘invading her private space’ and the texan woman has been charged with disorderly conduct because after having her space invaded she began screaming profanities at the australian.

ahh…. home….
