i finished up the pix from cup but there’s a ton from derby day so i think those will have to wait til after my holiday.

halloween pix

pix of the boy & i carving pumpkins are here. that was the height of halloween here. i found some glow in the dark skeletons & pumpkins at the reject shop (yes, it’s really called that) and had them around but that’s it. no costumes, no trick or treats.

anticipation of hell

in roughly two weeks, i’ll be headed out for a holiday around south australia. it will really be my first holiday since i arrived (i have gone away for a few days at a time but always taken my uni work with me). i’m excited about it but now that it’s getting closer, i’m starting to wonder.

saturday was the beginning of this doubt. we sat down to figure out the hotel situation. we call to book a place & they take the boy’s name & phone number but don’t give a confirmation number or ask for a credit card. i find this odd & to humour me, he called back & asked for a reservation number. they don’t do that. second hotel… this time they take the card number but still don’t give a reservation number. he asks them. nope, they don’t do that. today i tried calling a couple places & no one has voicemail.

i am starting to fear we will be in god foresaken middle of NOWHERE and it will be 1945!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

luckily by the end of the first day of traveling around we will have gone thru the coonawarra wine region (shiraaaaaaazzzzzz and cab savvvvv) so i should have plenty of beverages to keep me going.

it’s moth time again

i am OVERJOYED that is, once again, moth time. it’s finally warmed up and thus i have the balcony door open. during the day, the horsefly sized flies come in & try to buzz my head. during the evening, the moths want to party. i hate insects. and i still don’t understand why screens seem to be completely foreign. according to my post last year, it was january when the moths were at their worst. they better not continue thru then or i will have to seal the door closed.

speaking of warm… it’s almost 10p & i just got home. it’s a fantastic 29c/84f out there! wind is picking up now as they want thunderstorms tonite but it’s still gorgeous. i think the high today hit 32. sweet.

views

has anyone gone to the new rockefeller ctr observation deck? it looks pretty cool. i’ve been up there before – just not to the roof – and the view i saw was pretty great.

today was the melbourne cup here. a totally different view of hats, horses, drinking & green. i’ll have pix sometime soon & more details. right now i’m trying to figure out if i’m getting as much bandwidth as i should be…
