after pointing out some bad bits of AU, thought i’d mention a good one. i tend to be vocal about the things that annoy me.
i have always been impressed with the ATO (au tax office) which is the IRS equiv. granted i’m not earning much money and i don’t have any special considerations but to file my taxes, i download e-tax, a program from their website. the program takes you step by step and explains (fairly well) what the different things are. even for someone like me who hasn’t grown up with the terminology used. i had less confusion with my returns here than i have with the american system which i’ve used for ages.
after i did the whole thing on my computer, i transfered it to the ATO. and (here’s the best bit), i had my refund deposited into my bank account in ONE WEEK. amazing!
