not homesick for w

October 28, 2004 on 10:16 pm | In random | Comments Off

one of the travel shows (called getaway) had a special tonite w all usa locations (getaway to the usa). they showed the sex in the city bus tour u can take. but prior to the nyc story, they did one on savannah. now i’ve never been to & don’t have a desire to go but it didnt help the homesickness thing. started to get all teary eyed as they played ‘georgia’. i’m fucked.

one thing i’m not homesick for is the election bullshit & the election. but here’s a great game give bush a brain

letterman & groove armada

October 28, 2004 on 2:02 am | In listening, pictures, random | Comments Off

why is it we get repeats of letterman??? one of the channels here shows letterman m-th (at random times like 1230, then 1a, then sometimes 230a). normally we’re about 2 days behind in the broadcasts (again, who knows) and the one on right now is one i saw about a month ago. this isnt the first time i’ve seen a repeat either. dave’s talking about how cat stevens got kicked off the plane…

went to see groove armada last nite. had a great time. considered going again tonite but since i was out dancing & then had to be at work at 7a, i was pretty tired. when we left the gig, it was pouring but we walked for like 10 min to get to spiegeltent. (their wording, not mine). we were absoultely soaked & luckily it wasnt crowded so we were able to get a drink & sit down & relax. from the outside the thing looks really lame and i didnt understand why it’s so ‘famous’ and mebournites make such a big deal about it. but inside it was pretty cozy. pretty small with maybe 10-12 tables by the stage and maybe 12 booths around the edge. i might check it out next week when there’s people there.

tried to find something to wear to the cup next week. having a hard time!!! kills me that i just cant find a nice sort of dressy black shirt that’s under $100.

big bout of homesickness

October 26, 2004 on 2:33 am | In nyc | Comments Off

the last series of sex & the city is airing here now. we have 4 more episodes to go. tonite was out of the frying pan where miranda looks at houses in brooklyn. lots of jokes about how cabs don’t go there, how no one will come visit them & the girls drinking manhattans as rebelious act to living in brooklyn.

i always feel a little homesick after watching the show but tonite i got REALLY homesick. maybe it’s because my time here is going to be extended beyond what i thought it would be. maybe because i’m really missing my friends. maybe because i miss walking everywhere. because i miss being able to run out at 9pm (or even 7pm) and go to the chemist. because i miss having the 24-hr deli downstairs. or that it’s spring time but there’s no lilacs. that i cant find a good bagel. that i’d kill for some broc & garlic sauce from the place on 14th st.

but i can’t think about it since it’s not going to happen anytime soon (plus why the hell would i fly back during winter when it’s summer here!!!).

front page of the paper

October 26, 2004 on 1:28 am | In melbourne | Comments Off

the front page of today’s herald sun (like the ny post) and all over the tv news today is the news of delta goodrem & mark phillippoussis‘ break up & his new love, paris hilton.

mark is an aussie tennis star. delta (also aussie) is like 19 & has been on the soap opera neighbors. i think she’s grown up on tv. now she’s a singer (sugary pop crap). she was also diagnosed w some sort of cancer last year but has overcome it. put those 2 things together & she’s australia’s sweetheart. so it’s big bad news that mark has dropped her b/c she’s ‘boring’ and taken up w paris.

not just big news but front page of the newspaper!!! amazing.

textpattern & blosxom … and the winner is…

October 24, 2004 on 9:11 pm | In tech | Comments Off

ok, blog software #2. text pattern. my test site is here.

again, the install was pretty painless. very quick & easy. probably easier than wordpress actually.

from reading the other reviews, it sounded like i could have 1 install & multiple blogs but no where on the admin side do i see this option. when i went to search the support forum, i found there’s NO search functionality.

there also doesnt seem to be as much support as wordpress (both documentation & user contributed).

as u can see from the test site, there’s an error which isnt immediately understandable (at this point, i don’t have the time to debug).

but i do like that u can specify different categories for articles (ie posts) , links & images. i also like that u can have a future time as the publish date. you can disable comments after x amt of time (and u can moderate them). but i don’t like that i’m getting an error msg when i try to add a comment).

the templates are interesting. while the base one isnt very fancy, there does seem to be a lot of options w their textile syntax.

i’ve also had a quick look at blosxom (thanks peter!). it looks like it would take a decent amt of time going thru the plugins to set up what i’d want & i don’t really have the time so i think i’m going to go w wordpress.

wordpress 2

October 23, 2004 on 3:15 pm | In tech | Comments Off

i’ve just imported about 7 entries from the test blog i used when i was playing with MT. it was pretty easy. it imports comments & entries so i had to delete the 154 spam comments. that was also pretty easy… just searched on a few keywords & mass deleted.

it also imported my categories & the archives are working for those old entries. sweet.
