computer injuries
September 30, 2004 on 12:14 pm | In melbourne | Comments Offtonite’s lead story in MX (a free paper handed out to evening commuters… like metro in london) was amazing..
computer injuries on rise was the headline
< excerpt >
Monash University figures show keyboard cowboys are suffering electric shocks, near-amputation and poisoning.
One person suffered a 2 cm-deep cut to their shin after they jumped on their computer screen.
Another almost amputated their right thumb when it got caught in the computer rack as they jumped off their desk.
A third endured accidental poisoning when the radiator coolant used to clean their computer got into their mouth.
Two hundred people went to Victorian emergency departments with a computer or keyboard related injury between October 1995 and June this year.

TOOOOOOO FUNNY. jumping on screens, drinking cleaner, jumping off desks. and the best is that a whole 200 people had problems (there’s 3.4 million in melbourne… not sure how many in the state.. let’s randomly guess maybe 4.5) and it makes the front page of the paper!
tired
September 24, 2004 on 2:33 pm | In mba | Comments Offit’s 125 in the afternoon & i’m so tired that i know ill end up napping if i sit on the couch. several nights this week i’ve been up til 3-4a and then waking up about 8-9a. i can’t nap though since i have this org change paper to work on (that’s due tuesday & worth 50% of my grade). in about 2 hrs i have to leave for a meeting anyway.
had my physical & xray this morning for the visa extension (pretty quick, pretty nothing xcept for the bill). on the way back home i had to mingle with people waiting for the AFL grand final parade to start (the footy superbowl thing that’s on 2morrow). not as many of them as i would have figured considering how footy crazy everyone is but maybe that’s because for the first time neither of the teams are from melbourne. maybe the melb folks aren’t coming out since they dont care.

i dont know how i’m going to finish this org change paper tonite. there’s a fly in the house that keeps buzzing my head. it’s huge too. did i mention no one seems to understand the concept of screens on windows here?

dentist
September 22, 2004 on 6:10 pm | In melbourne | Comments Offjust back from my dentist appointment. i hadn’t been in ages so figured i better before my teeth drop out. everything’s fine & they’re all clean now.
the dentist had a tv in the room & some device (that i didnt see) to take pix of ur teeth. he took pix of 2 places where i have a cavity starting. that was kinda cool. there’s 2 tiny black spots that represents the cavity. nifty.
it also only cost me A$156. i think that’s pretty amazing. i got the office visit & a deep cleaning & floride gritty stuff. plus a little colgate gift bag that has 2 travel sized tubes of toothpaste, listerine, a toothbrush n a weird floss product PLUS a tiny pkg of sugar free candy! how nifty.
my student insurance won’t pay for this so its all out of pocket. the place was in this FANCY office bldg called ‘the jewel’ (i didnt know this) so when i was walking in, i figured i was gonna get screwed but 156 doesnt seem too bad. would have been double that at home, right??

xmas
September 21, 2004 on 9:43 pm | In melbourne | Comments Offsince i’m procrastinating so well…
decided a few days ago to spend xmas in tasmania (aussie translation… tassie). am going to fly to hobart which is the capital of the state (tassie is one of the states of AU) and has something like 200k people (holy shit). not exactly sure what is there except the harbour. guess ill find out.
then there will be 4 days, a rental car & a trip to the top end where i fly out of another city bk to melb (in time for new years eve & ny day). again, i’m not really sure what i’ll be doing.
there’s a cadbury factory you can tour but it seems its closed for the holidays. there’s a brewery tour (of one of my fav aussie beers) that i have to check on. would be great if it ended up like the young’s brewery tour in wandsworth (what a fantastic day….suzanne, u out there???).
spamming pricks
September 21, 2004 on 9:34 pm | In random | Comments Offi skipped class tonite so i could write a paper but so far i’ve looked for hotels for xmas break (i’m spending xmas in tasmania!!!) and ate raw cookie dough.
just checked my mail & saw i’ve gotten a bunch of comments on my blog. pretty weird. then i realised… guess what? it’s a spam post. fucking spamming pricks. it’s not enough that i get prob 200 spams a day to my various email accounts but now on my fucking blog?! i’m fucking pissed.
i think the little prick got 31 comments in before i caught the script. thank god i skipped class & noticed this w/in 30 min of the first post. had i come home & had a spam comment on every msg in this blog, i would have killed someone.
