got home this evening in time to catch the 530p news. 2 great stories in a row. i love this place!!
first a story of how a bunch of ‘activists’ riding bicycles is currently causing havoc in melbourne tonite. the riders met at the state library and were going to ride past the conference center (which has a motor show this wknd) to protest. after that they were going to drive over the main bridge – the one that u take to get to the airport and to the big sporting arena. but the ‘activists’ aren’t part of any organisation so there’s no leader, no spokesperson, no affiliation so no one to bargain with to get them to protest at another time (instead of rush hour). the footage included interviews with the police and transport folks re: what could be done. and here’s some transport person that said… “they’re just stupid selfish idiots who need to go home, take a shower and get a life’.
can u just imagine some official at home saying something like that???? 
second was the sad story of a woman who was kept prisoner for something like 2 years by some guy. he made her sleep on a concrete floor with only cardboard boxes to lie on, made her drink motor oil, verbally and physically abused her, etc. the guy has just been convicted on a whole range of charges. the great bit to the story was the video footage of this guy getting out of the cop car. as soon as he’s out he looks at the camera and gives the finger. not just the finger but starts waving his arm back and forth, i guess making sure every news camera there had a good shot of him. and then i realised he’s wearing a 3 stooges tie (w the pix of moe, larry n curly on it). how great!!! what an ass.
