us open

i’ve been watching the open the past few days. it’s on here at like 1am which is something like early afternoon in nyc. the commentators are aussie and the matches they show are the ones with australian players (though now only 1 remains so there’s a wider variety. i’m watching a replay of blake & federer now b/c of a rain delay)

anyway, a couple of times the commentators have mentioned how the nyc crowd is not a tennis crowd. it’s a sports crowd. implying we don’t know shit about tennis. and i think the reason for this is because the crowds aren’t quiet the way they are at wimbledon. i’ve noticed they mention this fact normally after there’s been a bunch of crowd noise. that’s funny since i watched the aussie open before and don’t remember them being all traditional and quiet the way wimbledon mostly is. i want to attend the aussie open in a few months so i guess ill find out.

Well, yes, I think you’re right. Its really not fair to expect either US or Oz tennis audiences to match the high standards of Wimbledon audiences. Wombles are so much more polite.
