catch up

September 24, 2003 on 10:59 pm | In random | No Comments

tv is the root of all evil. especially when you’re trying to work on a finance project. (man, do i ever hate finance…).

yesterday i missed the perfect photo op. it’s sunny, warm, bright blue sky and on the train coming back from school there’s a 20 something in his khaki’s falling asleep on the train. curled up in his seat, head against the window, hugging a book. what’s the book? that 7 habits of highly effective people one. :)

i’ve been sick for the past week. everyone and their mother has had this flu/cold thing in melbourne and finally last week i started to get it. the worst was saturday. i could barely swallow, constantly eating throat lozenges at work. had a glass of tea when i left and every sip made me cringe. couldnt sleep sat nite b/c i couldnt breathe and felt like i was going to die. spent the entire day in bed sunday. drinking lots of rosehip tea with garlic cloves and honey. popping all sorts of meds.

this wknd is the grand final – the superbowl equiv for aussie footy. i’m headed out of town. :) i would have ended up working anyway and not doing anything footy related but i decided i needed some time away and relaxation – esp w this cold. so it’s a roadtrip out along great ocean road. i’m very excited.

ok. back to finance.

schedule

September 17, 2003 on 1:11 am | In mba | No Comments

Lately ive been getting that kind of glazed over look when i talk about my schedule. People dont seem 2 realize why im not avail 4 dinner on a tues nite. So i was thinking id periodically include my schedule here.

9a- alarm goes off but i slip bk 2 sleep til
10a-shower make coffee ck email
1035a- lv 4 train make the 1050 one
1105a- fruit toast n juice
1115a- finance class. I feel sick n getting the test results bk today didnt help
2p- team meeting for finance project
330p- buy drugs 4 cold n some groceries head home
4p-gather stuff 4 class n rtn call re a project gig. Eat some cheese n ice cream.
430p- pick up flyers at south au tourist office since i mite be going 2 adelaide soon. Hop on train bk 2 school.
530p- run into classmate n over coffee gathering we bitch about classes n how semester break isnt a break. He sez i look tired n sick n i should go home n skip class but i cant b/c i hv a team mtg afterwards
6p- class. I hate this one b/c i dont feel im learning anything. i could easily spend the next 3 hrs being productive but instead ill sit here. A couple of wks ago i managed 2 skim n take notes on an entire book during class. The teacher reads off the slides n talks shit. Luckily we hv a speaker 2nite 2 talk about intellectual property n til she arrives we can work in our teams.
906p- train to tram home
930p- just in time 2 watch temptation island. Its the us version n one i havent seen before. i missed the first show last week but caught up pretty quickly. :) send out a bunch of emails, do a little homework organising, IM with a friend about going away for a wknd, cook dinner, clean a little bit
and now it’s 108am and i’m just now starting to work on this paper that’s due thursday AM (though i emailed and asked for an extension since i’m sick). oh, and watching david letterman

coffee addiction

September 14, 2003 on 8:42 pm | In random | No Comments

i know i’m addicted to coffee but i had a good illustration of that the other nite. in addition to my several cups in the morning and normally one in the afternoon, i also tend to have at least one in the evening at work. the other nite at work i didn’t have one and then about 10pm i realized i was moving slowly, not feeling very happy and how slowly my brain was working. always good to verify your addiction like that.

weather

September 10, 2003 on 7:46 pm | In melbourne | No Comments

i think it’s spring now. i think officially but who knows. it seems they do their official dates differently than at home. but thought i’d tell u about today.

i was up til 630am getting my dsl running (and it’s fine now thank u very much!) so i slept til 11a and went to work at noon. it was very sunny and warm. prob 60s. basically i was in a tshirt and a lite coat and warm. but while i was working it started to piss rain. so it was slightly drizzly and overcast when i left work but still warm. at 7pm on my way home from pilates it was getting chilly. again lite coat and lite shirt and i def wanted a sweater.

hotmail

September 7, 2003 on 6:59 pm | In random | No Comments

completely off the topic of mba….

i have a msn passport or whatever they call it because i run msn messenger (as well as yahoo and aol). but since i dont log into hotmaill they disabled my account (i never use the hotmail account). the other day someone said they tried to email me there so i figured maybe i should just check & see what’s up w this account. just now i reactivated.

and it sez i have 2 emails in my inbox. turns out only 1 is the ‘welcome message’. the other is a porn spam. literally seconds after i reactivated the account. wonderful.

would u like a salad with that?

i had a weird experience the other nite at work. i waited on a couple from CT who have been here 4 months. we had the “where are u from” conversation as i was opening their wine and then i took their order. the guy ordered soup, they both got mains (here it’s entree then main instead of appetizer/entree which has it’s own confusion but anyway…) and the woman ordered a salad.

the soup comes out, he’s eating, i offered bread and then she calls me over. she sez she ordered a salad. um, yeah, so…. and then a light went on over my head. we americans eat salad before the meal. wow. i forgot. here you bring out the salad when you bring out dinner. it’s more of a communal salad and you def eat it during your main meal.

it surprised me that i had forgotten this bit of life already. i’m being assimulated.

us open

September 2, 2003 on 1:26 am | In i talk funny | 1 Comment

i’ve been watching the open the past few days. it’s on here at like 1am which is something like early afternoon in nyc. the commentators are aussie and the matches they show are the ones with australian players (though now only 1 remains so there’s a wider variety. i’m watching a replay of blake & federer now b/c of a rain delay)

anyway, a couple of times the commentators have mentioned how the nyc crowd is not a tennis crowd. it’s a sports crowd. implying we don’t know shit about tennis. and i think the reason for this is because the crowds aren’t quiet the way they are at wimbledon. i’ve noticed they mention this fact normally after there’s been a bunch of crowd noise. that’s funny since i watched the aussie open before and don’t remember them being all traditional and quiet the way wimbledon mostly is. i want to attend the aussie open in a few months so i guess ill find out.
